“Equine First Aid” by Dr. Colin Scruton, D.V.M.
Monday, March 5, 2012 7:00-9:30 p.m.

This workshop is for horse owners and horse lovers; the session will help you feel a little more prepared for eventual emergency with your equine friend. Topics will include:

1. The equine first aid kit.

2. Physical examination of the equine emergency. Things to know before you call the vet.

3. Colic management - owner- field - hospital - surgery.

4. Wound management.

5. Other emergencies -eyes, respiratory distress, and for the back country people that travel to the interior - snakebite.

There will be a lecture portion in the CVTRS lounge at 4839 Headquarters Rd for about 1 ½ hrs, followed by a hands on session in the arena for about 1 hr. Please dress for the weather, arena is not heated.

Pre-registration is required.  Space is limited. $15.00/person or $10/person if you are a member of the C.V.  Therapeutic Riding Society or Back Country Horsemen of BC. Doors open 6:30 pm. To register, or if you have any questions, please email cvtrs@telus.net or call 250-338-1968.

Happy, Healthy Horse with Chiropractic Care

Join us for an informative session with chiropractor, Dr. Chris Kippel .  While trained as a human chiropractor, Dr Kippel  also works with our equine friends.  This session will give you a glimpse of options on maintaining a healthy, happy horse.  Topics will include looking at the anatomy of the coffin bone, pastern, and cannon bones, simple things to look for in your horse to screen for problems and some rehab exercises. Lecture portion will be in our lounge for about 1 hour followed by a demo in the arena for about 1 1/2hours.

Please dress for the weather, arena is not heated.
